The Couple Checkup is an online couple assessment based on the PREPARE/ENRICH couple inventories and contains many of the same categories. While the PREPARE/ENRICH Inventories are designed for counseling, the Couple Checkup is designed for relationship education and enrichment. The Couple Checkup report is made available directly to the couple, while the PREPARE/ENRICH report is for a trained facilitator working with a couple. As well as providing important demographic and background information for a couple, 55 areas are assessed in PREPARE/ENRICH whereas, the Checkup assessment consists of 20-25 relational content areas, areas that have been found to be significant for couples. The Checkup report is designed to go directly to couples at any stage of their relationship (dating, engaged or married).
A major goal of the Couple Checkup is to encourage couples to explore and discuss their relationship with each other. The online system allows for dynamic customisation of the assessment to each couple based on how the couple answers background questions. The goal is for the Couple Checkup to reach a more diverse group of couples, to empower couples to deal with issues on their own and to emphasize prevention over remediation.
